Access 2007 News and Tips from AEK11

October 11th, 2008 by Andreas Vogt

Here are some news and tips about Access 2007 seen on the 11th Access Developer Conference (AEK) in Nuremberg.

accdr - Switches
Renaming an accdb-File to .accdr leads to an user interface like known from runtime versions. Lightweight Grafic User Interface (GUI) and small protection against manipulation.

Navigation Bar:
Tip: Switch on the search function by right clicking in Navigation Bar. Then you can easily find Access Objects in complex databases.

Tools:
For those who wants continue to work with the known Database window as in older versions there is an addin from Gunter Avenius (www.accessribbon.de) which simulate a database window. On the same website there is a tool for create and manipulate Access Ribbons.

VBA IDE:
The mouse is now scrolling :-)
DAO has enforced, and finally is the default setting.
Option Explicit is no longer needed because variables will be automatically checked.
The automatically - and often annoying - syntax check is now off by default.

Updates:
Not so new is the SP1 for Office 2007, important fixes are included, and therefore the install is necessary. Within the first 6 month of 2009, the SP2 for Office 2007 is expected. Hopefully then Access 2007 is free of bugs so people wich don’t work with access 2007 because of the known (and unknown) security problems has then a reason do it.

For the latest bugs, and especially the Megabug “faulty database after compressing” there are current hotfixes.
